My assignment was to search for three success stories from the Armed Forces Research Libratory Website about how improving the manufacturing process has had positive results. I found the following: 1. Web-Based Design Environment Accelerates Weapon System Design The Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate and Air Vehicles Directorate joined forces with Lockheed Martin to develop a new method to design weapon systems over the Internet. The Web-Based Design Environment (WDE) tool will enable near real-time interaction multiple designers and users in geographically separated locations to work together on the design or adaptation of a new or existing system. This program is intended to provide a more cost efficient, higher quality weapons system twice as fast as the time required by conventional design systems. The (WDE) tool optimizes the design process by enabling real-time collaboration among the customers and industry users.
