Death Penalty in America
I would like to open this paper by stating that i am for the death penalty. ... 27 are crimes which deserve nothing but death. John Stewart Mills feels that the death penalty should be given to those which commit the most heinous crimes. I disagree and also feel that there are more crimes which should be tried for death, such as rape. ... Some often argue that what if you sentence a man to death which is actually innocent and I am not sure if it has ever happened but I think that we should take the chance and convict more people and sentence them to death. ... I feel that the sentence of death is not used enough. Rape, child molestation, treason, drug trafficking and murder are all crimes that I feel should be punishable by death. ... I feel that some of those convicts deserve the worst death imaginable. In this first part of this essay I may be wrong in my feelings but the government is right for having a death penalty. ... At year end 2000 thirty-seven states and the federal prison system had 3,593 under the sentence of death. ... Since the death penalty was reinstated by the Supreme Court in 1976, White inmates have made up the majority of those with the sentence of death. There were 1,990 whites, 1,535 black, 339 Hispanics, 29 American Indian, 27 Asian and 12 unknown race with a sentence of death in prison at the end of 2000.
