I found the movie clip from Glengarry Glen Ross to be more persuasive than the Boiler Room movie clip. In Glengarry Glen Ross, Alec Baldwin’s character utilized tactics that involved competition, money, and job security as lures to persuade a group of salesmen to pursue levels of accomplishments that they had never achieved before. If I were confronted in a manner in which someone challenged my job security, told me of how much money they made, and without discretion challenged my manhood; I would be very inclined to improve my current job performance with the intent of superseding the accomplishments of the one challenging me. The one aspect of the clip that caused me some dissension about his tactics is the condescending remarks in which he made. If someone were to call me a piece of shit or imply that my lifestyle was analogous to that of a shoe shine boy, I would have severe reservations about whether or not I could work at their company. Bottom line though, with the tactics used and the authoritive tone and manner in which they were presented, these methods would be very effective in gaining my attention and possibly enticing me to stick around a little longer to prove my abilities to myself as well as to the company.
