General Electric (GE) is a diversified technology, manufacturing and services company operating worldwide in over 100 countries with over 313,000 employees. GE traces its roots to Thomas Alva Edison, who established the Edison Electric Light Company in 1878. In fact some of Edison’s early business offerings are still a part of GE today, including lighting, transportation, industrial products, power transmission, and medical equipment. GE was formed in 1892 when Thomas Edison’s Edison General Electric Company merged with the Thomson-Houston Electric Company.
