Sophocles¡¯ Oedipus the King and Ibsen¡¯s Ghosts are two plays written at completely different time periods, by different authors grow up in different conditions of life: Sophocles, writer during the rise of the Athenian Empire, and Ibsen an author of the late 1800¡¯s. ... ¡±(Ibsen 96) The two plays are meant to accuse family, and to bring down its image, by displaying the frailty of its structure. ... Where Regine and Oswald seemed to be getting along well with each other, failure utterly results, where Oswald is lead on the path of his father, and therefore to death, while Regine, finding out her true origins, takes her leave to enjoy the rest of her life.
