Comparisons between both poems, “The Mother” (Gwendolyn Brooks) and “The Ambivalence of Abortion” (Linda Bird Francke) “The Mother”, a poem written by Gwendolyn Brooks talks and tells the reader about how can a woman feel after she has decided to have an abortion. The poem is focused and based on the guilt this woman has after her decision, the way in how she suffers hearing her children, but she knows that she loves them no matter what. Abortion, the same theme is described in this autobiographical narrative story written by Linda Bird Francke “The Ambivalence of Abortion”. In some way both pieces are related to each other, of course, they have the same theme. Although the two of them talk about the same, both authors have done it in a very special and different way. Linda Bird refers to her own experience, about all the mixed feelings she was tied to, because of abortion, her ambivalence, what made her doubt about the situation, everything that took her to do such thing. This are some quotations from both pieces to demonstrate on what they differ. “Abortions will not let you forget” this one is from “The Mother”, the author starts with this verse, tells the poem in second person and also the fact that is telling the reader that he or she will never forget it, is frightening, gives suspense and anxiety to read on.
