Issue Paper # 3: Dances With Myths Hollywood perceives Indians to be “in harmony” with everything, but in fact they are not as conservative as we think. The picture of Indian ethics is more fake than real. But environmentalists focus more on that than the reality of the Indians lives. And by focusing on the fake, it “patronizes” Indians, and makes it so that we do not see the “rich heritage resource conservation”. And from a speech done by Chief Seattle in 1854, and paraphrased by Ted Perry, we know of Indians as the way Hollywood says they are, when in fact they were “guided” by a unique environment ethic. And the speech is told by what everyone wants to hear, when in fact that is not what Chief Seattle said. But Indians have made many changes to this country, some good and yet some bad, but always because of scarcity.
