A play for power reveals the ways that human nature can be manipulated in order to achieve the ultimate goals of the power player. Success in a power play is ultimately decided by ones ability to exploit human nature. Humans have the potential to be influenced for positive or negative purposes, and the way in which they manipulate and, in turn, are manipulated by others "reveals much about human nature." Each human relationship is affected by power. Through examining language, we see how people endeavor to gain power and to what extent they are consumed by power. Such ideas are explored in William Shakespeares “Julius Caesar” as a massive struggle for power occurs at the peak of Roman societal advancement. Political battles rage in a dangerous environment, as a group of conspirators assemble to overthrow the mighty Caesar. ... Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” together with a variety of supplementary texts reveals that gaining trust of the audience, through the utilisation of language is the key requirement of a successful power play.
