When a person thinks back to his or her childhood, it is almost definite that he or she has been embarrassed. ... But if the situation was turned around, and the child had experienced being talked about day in and day out chances are that they have been hurt mentally. ... In the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, he illustrates how being an outcast is not easy. ... Lennie and anyone who experiences being put down on a day-to-day basis begins to believe what is being said about them. ... He does this for many reasons, but the main one being that he wants to appear as normal to George as he possibly can to George. ... In addition, unless one has experienced racism, it is easy for the person to say that the person being talked about is scared. ... Not only that, they believe what is being said about them, as Crooks says.
