At one time I strongly opposed the death penalty. I felt the death penalty was immoral and went against all religious belief. ... I further understand that God directed the death penalty in many instances in the bible. However, today our society abuses the death penalty, it is this unfair, misuse and lack of effectiveness is what I oppose. Consequently, I have mixed feeling about the judicial system used to impose the death penalty. ... In this paper, there are several issues I will address concerning the death penalty. ... According to Amnesty International “Texas is over represented in racial minorities on death row, the state doesn’t complete the appeal process, and Texas leads the states in assigning poor quality defense counsels”.
