Representative John D. Dingell, a Democrat who hails from Michigan, who has stayed an active member in Congress for the past forty-seven years is the topic of discussion in article twenty-seven. The article discusses how Dingell learned his job, the turbulent times he has gone through while in office, and explores how Dingell now finds himself in the middle of the greatest dispute he may face: redistricting. Dingell developed a work ethic and values at a young age. He was the son of Polish Catholic immigrants who raised him in a Jesuit setting. His father was Rep. John Dingell Sr., who held twelve terms in office and sponsored many great bills in the House of Representatives. Dingell attended Georgetown University and was greatly inspired by his father. In the 1950’s, he worked as the Capitol chief elevator operator and worked his way up on Capitol Hill.
