Legalized Prostitution
Prostitution has been described by many as the world’s oldest profession. ... Today the world struggles with the debate over whether prostitution should be legalized so it can be regulated and made safer, or remain illegal and continue to increase efforts to fight against the trade. However, if one were to look at the evidence, examine prostitution, and reevaluate our culture it is obvious that prostitution remaining illegal only causes more problems than it helps to solve.
Before delving into the specifics as to why it would be better for society to legalize prostitution, one must understand that the problem will not go away. In this country prostitution has almost always been unacceptable behavior, yet it has always existed. Much like the highly publicized war on drugs, prostitution isn’t going anywhere. Therefore it would only make sense for the government to accept the wants of society and allow for the legalization of prostitution for sake of the safety of its citizens. ...
Risks are high in the prostitution market now. ... Legalization can remove the “underworld” aspect to prostitution, this would make it safer for the customer, and prostitute (Jeffries). ... The nations courts are overburdened with prostitution cases in which women are sentenced to a fine, which they pay, and immediately turn around to get back on the corner. ... The act of prostitution is essentially a victimless crime. ... Women are allowed to have abortions, why not prostitution?
