John Grisham, an international phenomenon, was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on February 8, 1955. He moved to Southaven, Mississippi in 1967. Upon receiving an undergraduate degree in accounting while attending Mississippi State University in 1977, he then attended a law school at the University of Mississippi, where he earned a law degree in 1981. Within the same year he established a law office in Southaven, where he practiced criminal and civil law. Two years later he was elected into the Mississippi House of Representatives. “A Time to Kill”, his first novel, was published as in 1989, but the book only sold fairly well.
