On the Immortality of the Soul
For centuries people have formed groups of mutual beliefs to provide themselves with some sort of comfort. ... It is organizations like the church the advocate the notions of an immortal soul and an afterlife. ... ” What he means here, and I agree, is that many people believe that they will suffer the consequences of their actions after death, and so it follows that people act justly in an effort to save their immortal soul. But is their soul really immortal, or does it die with them? ... The soul does not continue to live after we die,

The soul cannot be immortal because, like the rest of our body, it is a material thing. ... Since the soul/mind interacts with the body in a vital way it much be material for if it were not made of matter is would not exist and it would not only be unable to be spoken about, but unable to interact with the body in any way.
