When the Legends Die Hal Borland I. General Reaction 1. This book made me realize how poorly the Indians where treated by the white people. 2. The most memorable scene is in the beginning when Tom’s father George Black Bull comes home after killing the thief. I though this was a well described scene. 3. I would not recommend this book unless you are into the Native American culture. II. Plot 1. The story starts with George Black Bull coming home covered in blood and runs off into hiding. Shortly afterward some men come looking for him but his wife denies seeing him. It turns out that George had killed a man, Frank No Deer, who had repeatedly stolen from him. One night Bessie wakes her son, Tom, in the middle of the night. Tom lives with his mother and father for several years learning the old ways. Suddenly his father is killed in an avalanche. Bessie dies shortly after. Tom buries her near his father.
