The introduction of writing remains one of the most influential and vital factors in the revolution of ancient times. The invention of writing would have an everlasting effect on the way in which religion is practiced. It provided a set basis of rules and regulations that were to be followed, also the invention of writing made it easier to recognize different faiths and their beliefs. It is essential to realize that the monotheistic religions would prove to benefit the most from this discovery. However, polytheistic religions would adhere to its benefits as well. During the time of the invention of writing, polytheism wad flourished, there were gods for everything. Prior to the invention of writing, narrative mythology played an important role in the practice of polytheism. People were told stories of many gods in their homes and would participate in rituals that relate to those myths. However, the invention of writing provided people with an opportunity to posses a hardcopy of the principle gods and their rituals. No longer were acoustic sounds the most dominant source of divine descriptions. The basis of the monotheistic religious practices is portrayed through its literary texts. The Hebrew-Bible and the Qur’an’s prophetic scriptures condemn polytheism and paganism and assign worship to one god.
