Franz Schubert

Franz Schubert was born on 31st of January 1797 in a cramped apartment in Himmelpfortgrunv a suburb of Vienna as the twelfth child of Franz Theodor Schubert who was a schoolmaster, and his wife Maria Elisabeth Vietz. Franz Schubert was the most poetic of all composers; he was the first true romantic composer. ... Franz was one of fourteen brothers and sisters, but nine of them died at a young age. A very affectionate family supported Franz’s musical talents. ...

Schubert attended his fathers’ school, which also served as the family living quarters and was taught his first music lesson, playing the violin. His brother Ignaz who was twelve years older than him taught him to play the piano but was astonished when after a few months of teaching him Schubert announced that he no longer needed any further lessons and he wanted to continue on his own.
