Faith is something that is very difficult to keep during times of great hardship and suffering. And even though it is faith that carries through such times, it is often lost and abandoned when it is needed most. In the book Night, written by Elie Wiesel, Eliezer begins his awful journey as a mere child, strong in his will and beliefs; but he finishes his story a wise and mature young man with broken faith and forgotten religion. While things in the Jewish community of Sighet begin to make turns for the worst Elie keeps faith, and even as they become steadily worse in the Nazi concentration camps, he retains his beliefs, even though their distance begins to grow.
