The laws against Cruel and unusual punishments have always been a very important part of our society since the birth of our country. It has been determined that cruel and unusual punishments are bad and are against the morals of today’s society. But in many ways these cruel and unusual punishments have not been totally abolished.
Many cruel forms of Capital Punishment and other punishments are still part of the law in many states. ... But without these laws, cruel punishments could still be used. ... “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted” (authors of the Constitution).
Even though laws like those are in place, other laws are put into place that would allow unusual punishments to be administered. ... This kind of punishment was also illustrated well in the short story, “Cephes 5”. ...
These, along with several other facts, are why we need to make sure that our society is clean of any kind of cruel and unusual punishment.
