Sometimes the most profound issues in the outcome of a novel lie in the distinction between the characters. In the book, The Crucible, there are many similarities and differences between the characters. Reverend Parris and Reverend Hale both practice ministry, but have different outlooks. Abigail and Elizabeth both love the same man, but their beliefs and intentions were distinctly different. Comparing and contrasting will be made between Rev. Parris and Rev. Hale, and Abigail and Elizabeth. Reverend Parris and Reverend Hale may be similar on the outside, but especially different on in inside. Rev. Parris and Rev. Hale were both extremely concerned about the witchcraft circling Salem. Reverend Parris calls Reverend Hale to Salem showing that he cares about the witchcraft going on in his city.
