Comparing and Contrasting Cassius and Brutus Cassius and Brutus are the two most important characters in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Everything that goes on in the play revolves around them and their relationship. Although they rule Rome together and share a lot of the same views, they are very different people. They differ mostly in their personality type. Brutus is the more inexperienced and honest person while Cassius is suspicious about things and is not as trusting as Brutus is. Oppositely, Brutus and Cassius share many character traits. Brutus, Cassius, and their differences are interesting to study. Brutus is a very naïve and trusting person. A very good example of this of this is when Brutus is talking to Antony about Caesar’s death. From reading that scene in the play, it was quite obvious that Antony was going to rebel in some way against the conspirators. Brutus underestimates the power of Antony. Brutus rather boldly states “For Antony is but a limb of Caesar” (II, i, 178). By this he means that without Caesar, Antony is powerless. Even after talking to Antony, Brutus lets him speak at the funeral of Caesar.
