The movie is about a little boy who suffers from an enlarged heart that could fail to function in just a matter of weeks. ... The father, John Q, tries all sorts of ways to collect money for his son¡¯s operation, yet the reality is too cruel to face: since both the wife and the husband have jobs, they are not qualified for welfare or Medicaid to pay for the operation; John¡¯s insurance company is only able to pay less than ten percent of the cost; the family sells the household valuable items in order to collect money for the operation; the family tries all the legal ways (requests a donation from church, goes to television station for support, etc.
