TEAM DYNAMICS
Many companies today work using a team environment methodology. Varied sources researched by this team, state that Teams allow for diversity in experience and a more democratic system to obtain the resolution toward a project. The discussion that follows will focus on areas of team accountability, team participants and their willingness to work together, team environment and how conflicts affect them. These focus points will show both the negative and positive views regarding Team Dynamics. ... When the
team has no leadership, the team has no focus, such as how to do the
project, or why are we doing the project, or what are we trying to get
from the project. A strong leader answers these questions and alerts
the team members of their roles in the group. Sometimes a leader is
picked for the team who do not have strong leaders. ... 8)

INFIGHTING
Infighting occurs when members of the team spend time and energy
fighting and undermining each other. The cause of this could be
different people in the team with different ideas and different methods
of doing things, trying to impose his or her will over the group. The
effect of the infighting is that it develops a negative energy within
the team. As this energy grows, the cohesion, or what holds the team

them. So, these people are more worried about leaving the team than
completing the project. ... Without trust in a fellow team member, there is no belief in
the integrity, character or ability of the other team members working
with him or her. This makes each team member feel as if he or she is
working by himself or herself, and that goes against the whole concept
of the word team. ... None
of the team members are willing to depend on each other. This usually
spells an early end to the to the team, and a non-completion of the
project. ... These are just some of the more common: a weak
sense of direction, infighting among team members, and a total lack of
trust among team members. These common difficulties usually spell an end
to any an all team project
.
TEAMS WITH UNWILLING PARTICIPANTS
Occasionally a team will have a member or members who are not willing to participate or contribute in a way which will be productive for the team. It will be extremely difficult for a team to make headway on a project if this type of behavior is not addressed. ... In establishing a team, members should be selected based on what they can bring to the team. When someone is asked to be a member of a team, they should be told up front the purpose and expectations of the team. If this occurs, it is likely that an unwilling team member will be identified prior to the team being formed, and either decide that they want to be an active part of the team or be excused. ...

INTERVENTION
Although some teams have been known to function smoothly with no designated team leader, most teams will function best if someone is in a leadership or “coaching” role. When detrimental behavior, such as a member who is argumentative or does not participate, is not addressed the team will struggle.
