It stinks.nights. Congress also passed the telecommunications Act of 1996 that said manufacturers have to install a V-chip in all new television sets. This chip is used as a rating system so violent shows can be blocked. Honestly I’ve bought several television sets and have never even heard of a V-chip. I’m sure there is one, but it’s not commonly heard of. Congress should consider passing a law that would protect children from seeing such violent material. One possible solution could be to tighten up the rating scale. Television producers can almost put anything on television besides full fledged nudity. Other than that there is hardly anything else that can’t be seen. Crime shows on television show people actually getting shot and they are very detailed. Drinking has become something that is just about seen on every television show. There are also certain shows now that betray women as nothing but sex idols. One could start to feel bad for women except the fact that there are women on the shows that participate in this behavior. Children watching all these shows lose a respect that once was placed on the opposite sex and even on human life. People in the television industry say that television isn’t responsible for the increase of violence in American society and that is just a scapegoat. They also say that it’s the parents and educators fault for letting kids watch several hours of television a day. (Does TV Kill,2) I will not disagree that the parents and educators have a responsibility to limit television to kids. On the other hand, regardless how much limitation you put on a child if they want to see a show then they more than likely can find a way to watch it. There is no sense in having shows and things on television that contain such a high level of violence that they aren’t suitable for children.
