HIV/AIDS Testing Should be Included in the Health Screening College Process?
Going off to college fills students and parents with many anxieties. Parents want to send their children to a college promising academic excellence and a safe environment, while students want to attend a college meeting their academic expectations and not having to stress over an incurable disease. ... This disease, HIV/AIDS, is one of the leading causes of death within the college student age group. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, estimates of 33,093 young people (ages 13 to 24) were reported with AIDS in 2001 (CDC). ... A community fostering to this age group should implement a course of action to help diminish this wide spread epidemic among young adults. Including an AIDS/HIV testing in the health screening process is a possible solution to decrease the large scale of college students affected within the campus community. Colleges should include HIV/AIDS testing in the health screening process to boost awareness, educate the student body, and provide a safer campus pertaining to this epidemic.
Those who carry HIV/AIDS are usually unaware they possess the detrimental disease because the incubation period can be six to ten years and a student can remain symptom-free up to several years (CDC).
