This essay will demonstrate the role of queen mothers as significant in the monarchy of Israel. David’s wives Abigail and Bathsheba in Samuel show great manipulation of David’s choices and actions affecting the monarchy. Bathsheba’s ongoing role is further addressed in Kings along with Queen Sheba, Maacah and Solomon’s wives and concubines. ... The queen mothers not only influenced their husbands, but also their offspring especially their sons and the people of Israel. Evidence provided in this essay show not only the significance but the creation of the ongoing generational existence of the monarchy ensured by the queen mothers. ... Abigail bares strong influence over David shown in 1 Samuel 25:32-36 where she convinces him not to kill Nabal ‘’David said to Abigail. ... ’’
In 1 Samuel 25:37 we hear of Nabal’s death from natural causes ‘’ Then in the morning when Nabal was sober, his wife told him all these thing, and his heart failed him and he became like a stone. ... Great criticism has been documented in accordance to the validity of Nabal’s death from natural causes, the path leading to David’s kingship is indisputably fortunate, to the extent that we may question the reliability of the written word again the Bible Review (February 2001) shares this insight by claiming ‘’If we read between the lines of Samuel and Kings, as McKenzie does with considerable insight, we see a darker and more realistic David and a more troubling biblical history. ... By following what is documented in 1 Samuel 25 we learn that Abigail is valued by David for her advice and her companionship.
