Horatio then informed Hamlet of the appearance of a ghost in the form of the late king. Hamlet visits the ghost which orders him to avenge his death and kill Claudius. After this visit with the ghost Hamlet starts his act of madness which leads us to believe that Hamlet is only behaving this way to confuse Claudius and others that may not be against him.
