She has always had lovers and her diary has been full of appointments but she hasn’t been able to hold on to a permanent relationship. ... She says that if you had a diary for a whole life, all the appointments would be in the beginning and get fewer and fewer as you grow older until it would be completely empty. This makes her think of her own diary, which is perhaps full of business appointments now but the gap between lovers has become longer.
