Sound Waves and Music 1. When two waves interfere with each other they will either create destructive interference or constructive interference. A beat is then formed when constructive interference and destructive interference occurs and a normal rate. Every time constructive interference occurs between the interfering waves a loud sound is heard, which creates the peak position of the beat to become higher. Every time destructive interference occurs no sound is created, which construct no movement in the beat. The difference between constructive and destructive interference and beats is that first, constructive interference is when two crest of different waves meet, therefore the medium will take the shape of the crest with twice the amplitude. Second, destructive interference is when a crest and a trough of the same size meet, they will then cancel each other out on the effect of the displacement of the medium.
