Blacks Portrayed on Television
In the last fifty years or so impression, stereotypes and opportunities for black people in America have changed drastically. On television black people have taken a larger role and are shown in a more positive light. Early on in television there were many stereotypes shown of black people and as time went on stereotypes slowly faded and a more accurate picture was shown.
The Beulah Show seemed to stereotype blacks and portray black people in a way to make them seem not as smart as white people. ...
In The Amos ‘n’ Andy Show I again found the show to be somewhat racist and it seemed they presented blacks as less cultured. ... ” I felt saying he gets evicted is somewhat of a cheap shot at blacks. ... ” I found this a funny comment that was almost like an Ad for prime time television. ... While they do own a junkyard, which is not the most glorious of jobs, Lemont is portrayed as nice and responsible.
