The company I have chosen is Peapod Inc. This company was founded in 1989 by Thomas and Andrew Parkinson. Peapod is now fully owned by the international food provider Royal Ahold and has a partnership with Ahold USA supermarkets Stop & Shop and Giant Food (www.peapod.com). The company Locations Headquarters Peapod Inc. corporate headquarters are located in Skokie Illinois Peapod’s parent company, Ahold has it’s headquarters in The Netherlands. Delivery places Groceries are delivered by three main branches in the USA. These are: Peapod in Chicago and Lake Geneva. Peapod by Stop and Shop in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. And finally Peapod by Giant in the greater Washington DC Area. Due to the nature of this business it operates only in densely populated areas, the delivery cost would be to high in the rural areas (www.peapod.com). Brief history of Peapod Inc. Founders One thing most e-commerce companies seem to have in common is that they are founded by people with a vision and firm belief in this new technology. This is the case here. Two brothers Andrew and Thomas Parkinson founded Peapod in Evanston Ill. This was back in July 1990. They began with a small test market of 400 households, supplied them with software and modems so that they could place orders online. The brothers then made the shopping and delivery themselves using their own cars. Gradually the demand increased and the company expanded it’s working area to most of the greater Chicago area which still is Peapod’s largest market.
