Fashion of the Modern Age Fashion in the Modern Age played a big part in the identification of social status. It also was a way to show self-expression and true feelings. Fashion plays an important role in everyday life as well as history. “I would simply take a fashion magazine in order to see how women will dress themselves…[T]heir fashion fantasies would tell me more about future humanity then all the philosophers, the novelists, the preachers, or the scientists” once said Philosopher Anatole France. The higher class in England during the Modern Age was very easily picked out of a lager crowed. These rich and famous women had very long and elegant S-shaped corsets. The S-shape consisted of a large overhanging breast that then got rather tight around the mid section, but then gradually got longer and more elegant towards the feet.
