In the world today, there has been a significant increase in the use of anabolic steroids among high school and college athletes. Webster’s Dictionary defines anabolic steroids as “any of numerous compounds containing a 17-carbon 4-ring system and including the sterols and various hormones (as anabolic steroids) and glycosides. ... The hormone’s anabolic effect helps the body retain dietary protein, which helps the athletes in the development of muscles. These steroids have few benefits, but they are quickly outweighed by the risks in taking them (Wadler).
There are two main types of steroids, steroids taken by mouth, or steroids that get injected into a muscle. The steroids that are taken by mouth are referred to as “orals,” while the steroids that are injected are known as “oils. ...

There are different effects of steroids when taking unprescribed to better one’s performance. Obviously, there is a physical effect, followed up by an emotional or psychological effect.
