There are obviously numerous reasons why we get depressed, however, when getting to the source of adolescent depression we discover that there are just as many characteristics leading to the awareness of depression. We must first get to the root of depression by looking closer to some of the many characteristics of this medical condition.

· Negative self-image
· Trouble making decisions, remembering, and concentrating
· Antisocial behavior
· Loss of appetite and possibly weight, or overeating and weight gain
· Fatigue, loss of energy, lack of motivation
· Feeling irritable and restless or slow and lethargic
· Thoughts of suicide or death
· Self-destructive acts Delayed development
