Governor-elect Schwarzenegger should be forewarned, to stay on his toes, the possibility that some Democrats will try to recall the recall is a very strong possibility. Before this successful recall initiatives there had been thirty-two previous initiatives. Gray Davis was re-elected November 2002, the paper work for recall thirty-three was started shortly after.
This recall was a success due in large part to Representative Darrell Issa, of the 49th Congressional District in northern San Diego and southern Riverside counties. ...
Representative Issa’s political ambitions were well known; he had said he would run against Davis if the recall qualified for the ballot. ... ”
Unfortunately, for Representative Issa, the dream of being governor of California came to a quick end, on August 7, 2003, Issa dropped out of the race for governor. Proposition 54 and Representative Issa ambitions aside, the official reasons proponents gave for the California recall is as follows:
1. California Deficit Worst In United States
Under Gray Davis, California went from a surplus to a record $38 Billion deficit - more than the deficits of all other states combined.
