     We live in a world of technology. Everything we do revolves around technology, from work to play and everything in between. We depend on technology in order to succeed in our daily endeavors. Since we do live in an age in which technology dominates the scene of daily life, we must all be informed, educated, and familiar with the technology in order to be a useful and contributing citizen. Because we do not live in a perfect world there are those who wish to wreak havoc on the systems which we depend on for our livelihood, these “criminals” are the developers of the infamous viruses and worms, whose only purpose is to damage and destroy someone else’s personal property, and in doing so, their way of life; therefore, these acts of malice can in no way be considered an ethical use of digital technology.
     A virus is a type of software that is attached to a program or file, much like the biological viruses from which it derives its name, most viruses will not affect you until you activate the program that it is attached to. Like its biological counterpart, computer viruses spread from victim to victim causing disruption, confusion, and even destruction. There are several ways that viruses are distributed. ... When it is attached to the “host” program it does not immediately harm the host but uses it, it is not until the program has been activated or opened that the virus is started. ... Attaching viruses to programs is not the only way to spread a virus, the majority of the most effective viruses have be started and spread by email. These are some of the most devastating viruses out there, because they are spread so quickly and to so many people that it creates an epidemic. ... I think that they should be put on the other end of the spectrum, so they could witness this destruction first hand, and then see if it changes their views on the ethics of viruses.
