Fitness testing
Fitness is ‘a set of attributes that relate to one’s ability to perform physical activity’ Mcardle, Katch & Katch (1995). This suggests that the better your attributes are as a whole determines your physical fitness, so it is better to be ok at a couple of the attributes associated with physical fitness than excellent at one or two but poor at the others.
The book ‘Fitness as an important dimension of human health’ states that fitness ‘involves a condition of living that characterizes the degree to which a person is able to function efficiently in daily life’. People have differing perceptions of what fitness is. ... Others believe that fitness can be a substitute for health. Fitness can and has a range of meanings to a range of people and your belief of what fitness is usually depends on what you personally want from fitness.
Physical fitness is split in to two separate sections. They are health related fitness and skill related fitness. Health related fitness is primarily about the cardiovascular system and prevention of diseases and illnesses in this area. Skill related fitness on the other hand is primarily influential on sport and those involved in competitive sport and feel improvement is needed. The health related components of fitness are strength, muscular endurance, aerobic endurance, flexibility and body composition. ...
