#33 Alex Papis 2-19-02 Franklin Delano Roosevelt Franklin Delano was born on Jan. 30, 1882, the only child of James Roosevelt of Hyde Park, New York. James Roosevelt was a businessman and a Democrat, and was interested in politics. The Roosevelts were very important people. Franklin’s mother Sara came from a very wealthy family. Franklin spent a lot of time at a vacation home in New Brunswick, Canada. He liked the outdoors and enjoyed natural history. His hobbies were bird watching, swimming, sailing and other outdoor sports, which he became very good at. He learned German and French with help from his tutors.
