Society today has an increasingly high demand that every social problem be evaluated from a medical standpoint. ...
I do believe that American society is becoming increasingly “medicalized”. ... I feel that with the increase of new medications, people will see the cure for their problems in relation to what current pills are available, which will create a “drugged up” society. ... I am not totally against the invasion of medicine into society but, I do feel that medicine prescriptions are prematurely written and only treat, not cure, the real cause of the “problem”. Society is seeing more and more obstacles in life not as natural givens to be coped with, but as mental blemish subject to physician’s mastery and control, and also to have compassion for victims more than to blame perpetrators. ... ”
This, I believe is the main downfall of Medicalization in American society.
