Well, for most of us, this statement is true. Most of the worldwide population is either infected with AIDS or cancer. And those of us who aren’t infected with either disease (now), are more likely to contract AIDS than cancer, in the near future. WHAT IS IT? AIDS- Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome- has become a major world wide epidemic since first reported in the U.S. in 1981. AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV progressively destroys the body’s ability to fight infections and certain cancers by killing or damaging cells of the body’s immune system. Aids victims are more likely to get infections that do not make healthy people sick. MYTHS.. Many of us have heard many myths about the transmission of Aids. Such as the following: touching a person, kissing, sharing towels, bedding, or eating utensils, or just being around someone who has Aids. NONE of these are true!!
