Vincent Laster-Characterization Essay-10:00MWF Influential Basketball Going through my senior year I was influenced the most by one man. A survey in 1998 asked high school student who their greatest influences were, their coach, their teachers, or their parents. Overwhelmingly, coaches were the greatest influence. Of my many coaches, the character of one shown above the rest, my basketball coach Darrel Doss. Before Coach Doss could influence us, he had to become the coach. The present Coach my senior year was Coach Simms. He was hard-nosed, hot-tempered and hard to get along with. Coach Doss was the exact opposite; he was relaxed, encouraging and used his temper when necessary. Thankfully, Coach Simms was forced to step down due to a family issue. When Coach Doss took over it was a burden lifted off of the team’s shoulders. The basketball team last year had a record of 2-22, and new coaching was desperately needed.
