“Literature opens a dark window on the soul, revealing more about what is bad in human nature than what is good.” This statement suggests that literature opens a whole new window for you. But the window that it opens is one that is rarely used, and makes you take a second look at yourself. It opens the part of you that you would never notice, and makes you reconsider your own good and bad contributions to human nature. The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, and The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell make reevaluate the good and bad in human nature. In the story The Lottery the author uses foreshadowing to hint what will happen further in the story. At the beginning of the story children are picking up rocks, which will be thrown at the person with the dot, We do not know what these rocks are going to be used for until you read the story more.
