1984 By George Orwell Is what everyone believes the truth or does the truth remain the truth even though no one admits to it? 1984 mainly revolves around the idea that the truth can always be altered and that the truth is what the government says that day. This passage conveys the meaning of the novel, which is, the truth is hard to attain. This passage is made up of Winston’s thoughts and consequently has a very angry and cynical tone. First, Winston’s description of Parsons as an “animal” and the description of a man with glasses as an “eyeless creature” shows that Winston himself was angry. Winston calling them derogatory terms in his mind tells us he is angry because him thinking of Parsons and the other man like that is a thought crime that he could be arrested for.
