1.1 Issues Faced in Miles Today the town of Miles faces many issues, which threaten its survival. 1.1.1 Industrialisation of farms In recent times farmers have been using the latest technology on their farms to cut costs because of a “cost price squeeze” (Appendix 4) and improve productivity. These days using GPS technology a single farmer can take the place of perhaps up to twenty farmers that may have been needed on a farm before to water, plough and seed a farm. This makes farming a lot cheaper and more productive for the farmer, but it cuts a large number of jobs available in the town of Miles.
