When my friend Premal from New York wrote to tell me he planned to spend his two-week vacation visiting me in Spartanburg, I panicked. I didn’t want to look like a dud, but how could I entertain Premal for two weeks on a limited budget? What could we possibly do to fill all that time and not die of boredom? My first reaction was to tell him that I was scheduled for major surgery those two weeks. I’m glad I didn’t. Once I started really searching, I found multitude of activities. Because Premal is such a nature and entertainment freak, the biggest challenge I faced was working everything in. Our days, nights and weekends were packed with activities. Although I feared the weekdays would be the hardest to fill, each day we found ourselves trying to decide between trips to parks, gardens, zoos and wilderness areas. I thought Premal would fancy going to Frankie’s fun park in Greenville, which is only 35 minutes away from Spartanburg. This place is economical and full of activities. We had fun at the three mini golf courses, battling cages, go-cart tracks and a game arcade. One of the other places we visited was The South Carolina Botanical Garden.
