Hedda was a destructive, neurotic bitch who ruined people’s lives, so why should we care for her?
Hedda Garbler, the daughter of an army general and a girl who is chased after by many men both young and old. There is no doubt that it can be viewed that Hedda can be a destructive neurotic bitch and did enjoy toying with people and playing them off against each other. However depending on how the situation is viewed there may be reasons as to why she behaves the way she does.
From the play, it can be gathered that Hedda had been brought up in a family that is fairly well off financially, and who’s father is a powerful man, as one is when an army general. ... It can be said that Hedda had a wild and relatively carefree life when she was younger – going to dances, and balls, horseback riding, shooting, and the like, however not much responsibility to bear.
