One of the great things about living out of town is the unspoiled scenery and friendly neighbours. However the other day an incident happened that made me a little ashamed to say that I live in the country. My friend Colin and I decided to go to the 11th line bridge overlooking the river to play guitar. The water was real low so we went right underneath the bridge. We were only there about 5 minutes before a very irate woman cam storming down the path to the river. “What are you doing here?” she demanded. Because each of us had a guitar we figured the answer was obvious, but never the less I answered, “We’re playing guitar.” “You’re on private property son, and I suggest you leave.” was her harsh reply. Now I should explain more about the Grand River. It runs through several counties, East Gary being one of them. I was always raised to believe that no one owned any part of the river, it was there for everyone, and no one ever littered or caused damage to the bridges for as long as I’ve lived here. Still, I figured she knew what she was talking about so I said “Oh I’m sorry we’ll get going.” We started walking away and for she started running after us!
