The Tale of Two Lovers Shakespeare in Love is a movie that is based on old 16th Century England. This is because Shakespeare in Love is an historical fiction movie. It has real human values, actual customs and cultures, authentic dialogue, an identifiable hero and real historical events, places and people. This is a great movie that demonstrates signs of an historical fiction piece of work. Shakespeare in Love is an historical fiction movie because it reveals values from the 16th Century that are the same as in the 21st Century. In the movie Shakespeare in Love there is materialism, a demand for entertainment, friendship, duty and love. People in 16th Century England were very materialistic because they wanted to prove that they were wealthy to get a good spouse (parents chose). In Shakespeare in Love Lord Wessex married Violet for her money and land. In the 16th Century there was also a demand for entertainment. The main form of entertainment in England at that time was theatre, rugby and a few other ‘less exciting’ forms of entertainment. In Shakespeare in Love the main forms of entertainment is theatre. In this case the Queen’s, Curtain, and Rose theatre. Like today, friendship was also important in 16th Century England. Having the right friends could make you known in the small world. The main friendship in the movie Shakespeare in Love was Violet and her nurse. Shakespeare also had many a friend in the theatre business.
