The first half of “Father and I” begins as a happy tail of a boy and his father going off to listen to the birds chirp and sing their happy songs. They walked along the railway line, no one was supposed to walk along this line but they could because father worked for a railway line. ... Since the father works on a railway, he hails the engine driver with two fingers and the driver saluted and waved as he passed. ... The river however was a good walk away, and to make sure the walk was worth while, the father looked at a semaphore to make sure it was alright.
