Ecclesiastes Ecclesiastes is a book written by someone who is reflecting on life and the futility of everything. The language is very detached and philosophical, without passion or feeling. It is a collection of reflections; there are many themes, all centering on the futility of wisdom and the absurdity of life. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 centers on the pattern of life and the function of time. Ecclesiastes is written in verse, it is a poem describing the pattern of life. One of the themes is a “There is a time for everything” meaning that for everything that we do god has set aside a place and a time for us to do it. Next, is that it is God’s will, whatever happens, happens. Structure is a series of oppositions, presenting good and bad at the same time, affirming the futility of worrying about what’s going to happen. In this poem, the author finds something that is not absurd, time. Time is set, steady, and constant. There is a time for everything in life, for the good and the bad.
